David Kohn Architects, New College, Oxford.
We are pleased to welcome David Kohn, founder and director of David Kohn Architects, to give the LSA’s first lecture of 2019 – a continuation of the Bodies of Thought lecture series for the Royal Academy.
In this lecture – part of the Bodies of Thought series, curated by Vicky Richardson in partnership with the London School of Architecture — David will discuss sculpture and its relationship to architecture. With reference to his latest projects, including the refurbishment of the ICA and a new campus for New College, Oxford, he will explore figurative sculpture in classical architecture and the relationships between sculpture, landscape and architecture explored in post-war land art.
Born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1972, David Kohn studied architecture at the University of Cambridge and Columbia University, New York. His practice recently completed the new Photography Centre at the V&A and won an international competition to design an apartment building in Berlin. The practice has collaborated with artists on past and ongoing projects including Fiona Banner, Simon Fujiwara and Pablo Bronstein.
