LSA Representation in the AJ Small Projects 2026 shortlist

We are pleased to see representation from the London School of Architecture (LSA) community in the AJ Small Projects 2026 shortlist. With the award now in its 31st year, the shortlist is made up of 20 projects from over 170 entries, showcasing diverse, community-focused and sustainable designs, from home extensions and public realm works to studios and youth spaces, highlighting reuse, natural materials and social impact.

AJ Small Projects 2026: Other People’s Dreams Drift Community Radio

Drift Community Radio is a community broadcasting initiative that originated as a floating micro-radio station on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal before developing into a fully mobile pop-up structure for hyper-local storytelling and cultural engagement. 

Key to the project was its participatory design and construction. Applications of digital fabrication were tested through a laser-cut model in the prototyping stage before the final structure was produced from waterjet-cut plywood components. Coach bolts and wingnuts were used to connect the pieces, so people with no specialist skills would be able to build the structure easily in each host location. 

The project is currently being established as an independent Community Interest Company. Activities include community sessions, workshops, performances and live broadcasts. 

Lee co-ordinated the design and delivery of the project alongside other members of OPD. ‘Having this project on the AJ Small Projects shortlist recognises the potential for architecture be a tool for establishing moments of collective life, regardless of scale, budget and context. It is great to see the work of Super Slow Way and the communities that they engage with receiving recognition for their work and impact’ 

AJ Small Projects 2026: Other People’s Dreams Drift Community Radio

AOC Architecture: Forest Studio 

Gill Lambert is Director at AOC and a first-year Design Tutor at the LSA 

This studio sits in the back garden of a 1930s semi-detached house on the edge of Epping Forest. Conceived as a space for an artist and fashion designer, the new-build structure explores forms of construction inspired by its suburban and woodland context.  

Partially sunk into the ground, the main studio has a large internal volume which would have otherwise been restricted by permitted development heights. Its enclosure is pulled back from the southern boundary to form a courtyard with a scooped roof, bringing light deep into the studio’s interior. A projecting canopy provides protection to a raised deck and is clad in profiled aluminium to reflect the garden’s colours and vivid red window frames. A reclaimed telegraph pole and cork columns provide tactile contrast. 

On 30 April 2026, all 20 shortlisted teams will present their projects to a jury, after which the winners will be announced. Voting is open for the AJ Small Projects People’s Choice award.
