London School of Architecture announces strategic collaboration with Black in Architecture
We are proud to announce a new collaboration with Black in Architecture (BiA) following on from BiA’s 2021/22 collaboration with Oxford Brookes School of Architecture where several research impact activities were delivered alongside emerging principles to underpin a charter on architecture, race and equity.
The LSA’s collaboration with BiA will include a series of events, workshops and digital content to support these principles and other ongoing work by the research unit. In turn, BiA’s work on race and racism in architecture will feed into the school’s approach and teachings.
BiA will present their research to date at on Thursday October 27th to launch the partnership and will invite reflections and participation from the architecture community in an effort to help fulfil Black in Architecture’s main mission to collectively draft a charter for race equality in UK architecture.
“We are privileged to benefit from and build upon the bold and urgent work that BiA is undertaking for our sector. Diversity is at the core of our mission – we want to support our students, young people considering careers in the Built Environment and members of our Practice Network, in providing exemplary leadership in equity and design.”
Neal Shasore, Head of School/CEO, London School of Architecture
“Black in Architecture was initially conceived as a six-week project. Being able to collaborate with other bodies in the discipline to drive this initiative is a testament of collective action. This year’s collaboration with the LSA is timely, both for the changes at the school and for Black in Architecture’s progress and impact”
Juliet Sakyi-Ansah, BiA Founder and Researcher.
