Objective

The aim of the project is to promote activity in families and children that aren’t currently active, by providing accessible and appealing active infrastructure in or near urban centres.

 

Motivation

There’s a positive association between activity levels and social and community development. Those who are active have higher social trust scores than those who are inactive. Community sport facilities contribute £72bn yearly in social value, provided by a healthier population, greater work productivity, reduced crime and stronger communities. Despite this, London has a lower percentage of children that reported being physically active than any other region of the UK, and Hackney has a particularly poor provision of active infrastructure.

 

Strategy

By pairing conveniences, such as a laundrette and community kitchen, with active sport and play spaces, families are able to be active for longer periods through the day. A continuous route winds through the site, connecting these programs and itself becoming a space for play, activity and socialising.
