Join the LSA’s team of design tutors for 2021/22

The London School of Architecture is seeking applications for part-time tutoring roles across its two-year MArch in Designing Architecture (ARB/RIBA Part 2) programme.

The is seeking exceptional tutors who may wish to teach in one of the following areas:

Please review the modules in our programme description, which can be found here.

Background

The LSA has two fundamental objectives: to widen access and participation, supporting the greatest and most diverse talents into a career in the built environment; and to deploy design as a transformative force to enable people living in cities to experience more fulfilled and sustainable lives.

Opened in 2015, the London School of Architecture brings together academia and practice in creative partnership. Our two-year MArch in Designing Architecture (ARB/RIBA Part 2) programme is supported by over 130 practices who provide work placements. Based in London to be close to these placement providers, we recruit from across the UK and seek to enrol up to 75 diverse students per year.

We welcome applications from:

  • experienced tutors who are based in London and work across a broad range of architectural and design agendas, and who are engaged directly in designing, building, researching and publishing work.
  • early career practitioners from under-represented groups who are interested in gaining tutoring experience.

The LSA has an equal opportunities policy and seeks for its faculty to reflect its ambitions to widen access to and participation in the architectural profession.

Applicants should:

  • subscribe to the mission for the school and be able to make a critical contribution to it: www.the-lsa.org/about/purpose/
  • experienced tutors to have at least four years’ teaching experience (i.e. not just as a visiting critic)
  • early career practitioners to have at least four years in practice.
  • be available to teach in our studio in East London
  • preferably be practicing in London, in your own practice or as an employee

Deliverables

  • please submit a portfolio, CV and covering letter by Friday 9th July 2021 to admin@the-lsa.org
  • please make clear in your covering letter which of the programme areas is of specific interest to you as well as your level of practice and teaching experience
  • interviews will be during the weeks of the 12 and 19 July 2021
  • positions commence in September

If you have any questions please email the LSA’s Academic Director, Samantha Hardingham — samantha@the-lsa.org

Teaching Development Bursary

The LSA recognises that there are significant structural barriers to diversity in architectural education which are often financial. Our school is committed to establishing a diverse teaching base to support an increasingly diverse cohort of students — we aim to establish a student body that is 50% from disadvantaged neighbourhoods and 50% ethnically diverse by 2030.

To support this goal, the LSA is offering three Teaching Development Bursaries worth £1,000 each. These will be used to give educators the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of our innovative Design Think Tank teaching model and potentially explore other teaching opportunities within the school.
