We are pleased to announce that Lee Ivett, Head of School at the London School of Architecture, has been conferred a professorship by the University of the Built Environment.
Senior lecturer Ruth Lang has also been promoted to Associate Professor by the University.
The appointments recognise their depth of expertise across programme leadership, pedagogic innovation, professional practice and applied research, and reflect the growing academic strength of The LSA following its merger with the University of the Built Environment in May 2025.
Mr Ivett, who became Head of The LSA in August 2025, said:
“I am exceptionally pleased and proud to have been awarded this professorship and along with the promotion of Dr. Ruth Lang to Associate Professor see this as an exciting opportunity to ensure that research and knowledge exchange at the LSA is supported, recognised and is a fundamental part of our identity as a School of Architecture. These promotions also further establish the potential for inter-disciplinary collaborations and initiatives with academic colleagues across the University of the Built Environment which will address critical issues of design quality, sustainability, accessibility, equality and safety within our professions and wider society.”
An architect, designer, artist and urbanist, Mr Ivett’s practice-led research is rooted in organic and generative approaches to architecture. His work focuses on low-budget, socially led projects, developed in close collaboration with communities across the UK, with an emphasis on design as a tool for civic engagement and spatial agency.
Dr Lang is an architect, curator and writer whose work examines how the processes of contemporary architectural practice can respond more effectively to the Climate Emergency. Her research and teaching explore new models of practice that bring together design, ethics and environmental responsibility.
These appointments form part of a wider set of academic promotions and professorial conferments made by the University of the Built Environment.
