Working with The Klassnik Corporation, the LSA has been shortlisted to take part in the the London Festival of Architecture’s (LFA) Royal Docks design charrette.
Ash Sakula and Farrells, both of whom are in the LSA’s Practice Network, were also shortlisted alongside Sarah Wigglesworth Architects with Fluid and Kinnear Landscape Architects, and LYN Atelier with Urban Narrative.
The charrette will examine connections between Custom House and Royal Victoria in the Royal Docks, an area which will see the Elizabeth Line run through it in 2019 and have £314 million used for regeneration over the next five years, as planned by Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and Mayor of Newham, Rokhsana Fiaz.
Both Mayors are looking to revive and transform the Royal Docks into a commercial and cultural destination – bringing jobs to Newham residents and Londoners.
According to the LFA, the charrette is ‘an opportunity for architects to be part of this change – addressing key challenges in the Royal Docks area, and helping to inform a vision and strategy for the Royal Docks Team that will better serve local communities, businesses and attract visitors.’
‘In the coming years the Royal Docks will be transformed thanks to millions of pounds of new investment, alongside new links thanks to the arrival of the Elizabeth Line,’ Tamsie Thomson, LFA Director told the Architects’ Journal.
‘The Royal Docks charrette is an opportunity to bring exceptional architectural and design talent alongside local residents, businesses and decision-makers to make the most of the exciting changes now taking place.’
The charrette will be hosted at the ExCel in London and take place over two days later this month. Steven Smith, Director of the shortlisted Urban Narrative, is also an Urban Studies Design Tutor at the LSA.
