Gillian Horn joined Penoyre & Prasad in 1999 and became a Partner in 2004. She is skilled at inspiring and steering the design team to achieve exceptional results, and has led a number of award winning project teams, with her ambition, enthusiasm and a positive approach to problem solving.
Gillian was recently appointed as Vice Chair of the new PLACE Review Group for The Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation. This new, key role aims to ensure that all new developments in London’s largest regeneration site meet the very highest design standards. She was also recently appointed Chair of the Waltham Forest Design Advice Panel, established to provide independent, expert design advice on key development proposals as part of Waltham Forest’s regeneration objectives and home building programmes, which will improve the quality of life for residents and retain the essential character of the borough. Gillian is also a Built Environment Expert at the Design Council and is a ‘Wise Friend’ and member of the Housing and Public Realm design panel for Urban Design London. She was a CABE National Design Review Panel member 2009-2012. Her consultancy work includes Client Design Advice and Design Quality Indicator facilitation.
Gillian studied at the University of Cambridge and Harvard. Prior to joining the practice she was project architect on the innovative and award-winning Straw Bale House in Islington for Sarah Wigglesworth Architects. Gillian has taught at The Architectural Association, the University of Cambridge, Kingston University, Greenwich University and she is also an external examiner at The University of Manchester and University East London and more recently at Plymouth University. She is a regular conference speaker and contributor to Radio 4’s Learning Curve, Front Row, Teachers’ TV and the RIBA Journal. Gillian contributed to the second edition of the acclaimed book ‘Managing the Brief for Better Design’.
