The Woodberry Down Pavilion, delivered by Part 0 co-leads Roy Coupland and Yang Yang Chen has been shortlisted for this year’s Inspire Future Generations Community category.
The pavilion is a pilot project delivered by RC/YYC in collaboration with the London Borough of Hackney, Notting Hill Genesis, Berkeley Homes and with support from Manor House Development Trust and the Woodberry Down Community Organisation.
Between June to September twelve young residents were guided through a series of up-skilling workshops that took them from shaping the project brief to finalising the design with input from structural engineers, Simple Works.
The pavilion was built by Daniele Barco Works, New School of Furniture Making and Or This and was on-site from 13th September to 6th October. In that time it hosted ten outdoor workshops, three community events and engaged just under 300 local people.
“I would definitely like to do more projects like this in the future. I really enjoyed coming here every Wednesday and creating this pavilion, creating new memories that I didn’t have before.” (Tiger, an ex-resident of Woodberry Down and part of the co-design team).
