LSA students shortlisted for London Festival of Architecture design competition

The London School of Architecture is delighted to celebrate a team of second-year students who have been shortlisted for the Wilcox Road Gateway design competition by the London Festival of Architecture and the Neighbourhood Regeneration Team at Lambeth Council.

The team, Embed, is a collective of second-year students: Dominika Pilch, Jonathan Boon, Adara Wicaksono, Alexandra Totoianu, Jake Obichere, Jane Tocilina and Mikolaj Strug, led in consultation with CarsonSall architects.

For many at Embed, this is the first time they have been shortlisted for a major competition. Embed’s entry falls separately to their work at the LSA which they have balanced alongside – a process that has been “highly rewarding” and encouraged them to work both organised and efficiently as a team.

When asked on their entry to the competition, Embed said:

“The competition aligned with our core ethos that people shape design, and was a great opportunity to apply what we have learnt at the LSA into a real world project in Lambeth. For all of us, the LFA competition is something we feel passionate about, and an opportunity to celebrate the diverse cultures along Wilcox Road. Working collaboratively with the local people, we hope to develop a joint vision of a reinvigorated neighbourhood. We want to positively contribute to the landscape of London, learning from the city and its inhabitants.”

On whether the future holds any more work and competition entries:

“The next deadline for the competition is coming up – so plenty of hard work to come. If successful, we will all be extremely excited to see our vision for the competition come to life, positively contributing to the local community and forming part of the regeneration of the area. As for other competitions – who knows what the future holds, but we have all really enjoyed working together as a team, so why not?”

The LSA is extremely impressed with the hard work and dedication of Embed, highlighting the incredible commitment and drive of students at the School to which their shortlisting stands testament. We wish the best of luck to Embed and for their future projects.

Applications to join our next pioneering cohort of students are still open, apply now. Deadline closes 31 March.
