The London School of Architecture and Citizen Magazine are seeking a smart, dynamic, articulate and driven salesperson with 2-3 years’ experience for the post of Business Development Associate. This exciting new role will be responsible for delivering the commercial objectives of the London School of Architecture and Citizen magazine, forging and maintaining mutually enriching collaborations and partnerships

Working directly with the CEO and Editorial Director, this is an opportunity to collaborate at a strategic level with the founders of the business to realise maximum commercial opportunities.

The LSA was founded in 2015 with the vision that people living in cities experience more fulfilled and sustainable lives. Our school seeks to educate future leaders who can design innovations that contribute to this change.

Founded in 2019, Citizen Magazine is a new, quarterly magazine, which reflects the principles and mission of the LSA. The magazine is put together by a team of highly-experienced and award-winning editors, journalists and designers with contributions from leaders at the forefront of policy, finance, development, architecture, urbanism and academia as well from students and staff from the LSA.

Working within a mission-driven organisation, this role has considerable scope for working autonomously and career advancement. We seek a candidate of some sophistication who believes in our vision and holds our values, who can articulate the core principles and translate them into mutually rewarding partnerships with brands at the forefront of design innovation.


Key accountabilities and duties


  • Identify new sales leads from researching into relevant organisations which have the potential to align with the organisation’s ethos and business and develop strategies for approaching key decision makers in those organisations.
  • Use your initiative and identify potential target markets, document findings and perform cursory evaluations with a view to communicate findings to the Chief Executive and Publisher.
  • Keep abreast of key and relevant industry updates via specified online portals and industry events while always looking for ways to capitalise on opportunities.


  • Contact existing organisations within the school’s network and reach-out to new organisations via email or phone to establish rapport and setup meetings.
  • Arrange and coordinate meetings with key personnel and a potential client.
  • Use your initial research and knowledge to deliver a well-informed and bespoke pitch with confidence to potential organisations.
  • Close deals and prepare the relevant paperwork and particulars as set-out by the Finance Director to facilitate smooth processing of payments.


  • Maintain healthy relationships by investing time into the school’s existing network of organisations and individuals  via phone calls and emails, which includes a diverse range of design and architecture industry professionals from building material suppliers through to architectural practices, developers, engineers and specialists.
  • Document and record your progress and deliver status reports to the Chief Executive and the Board Of Trustees.

Person specification

The ideal candidate would have an aptitude for thinking strategically, a relentless and imaginative approach to creating opportunities, a demonstrable record of crafting and closing deals, a high level of ambition to succeed, and an ability to collaborate with a creative team. The right candidate will have:

  • A solid understanding of the Microsoft suite including Word and excel
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Google Documents and Google Drive
  • Past experience and knowledge of managing a CRM


  • Location –London
  • Salary –£25,000-£35,000 FT depending on experience
  • Hours –4 or 5 days per week
  • Contract –6-month contract with possibility to extend to permanent
